How vacuum testing works
A soap solution is applied over the completed weld. A vacuum test box is placed over the seam and the pump pulls a partial vacuum inside the box. Any pinhole or porosity in the weld will draw air through, producing bubbles in the soap film. The box is then moved along to test the next section.
FAQs
Does this come with a vacuum test box?
No. The pump is sold separately. Test boxes are sized to the weld type (lap weld box, fillet weld corner box) and are ordered to match the job.
What vacuum level does it pull?
Standard test pressure is 5kPa (about 50mbar) below atmospheric, held for 10-30 seconds per test position.
Is vacuum testing or spark testing better?
Vacuum testing is the standard for HDPE liner and geomembrane work because it tests the bond without needing a conductive backing. Spark testing requires a copper earth strip embedded under the weld and is more common for industrial tank work where the strip is designed in.
