Common Hamilton & Waikato applications
Waikato’s industrial mix puts plastic welding in front of customers across several sectors. The right gear depends on the job:
Agricultural & dairy
Polyethylene tank repair, irrigation pipe fittings, effluent system fabrication, calf-feeder repairs. PE-HD welding rod and a Triac hot-air welder cover most farm and dairy plastic work. Heavy-section work shifts to extruder welding.
Auto body & mechanical
Hamilton’s vehicle repair market drives steady bumper-repair demand. Automotive kits with PEMD rod replace bumper-replacement costs with 1-3 hour weld repairs.
Fabrication & engineering
Waikato fabrication shops welding PP tanks, HDPE pipe, ducting and chemical-resistant equipment. Fabrication kits or stand-alone Triac welders plus the appropriate rod stock.
Plumbing & drainage
PVC pipe repair, HDPE drainage work, PE100 pressure pipe welding. Hand-held kit for repair and modification; PE100 work uses extruder welding for full-strength joints.
Signage manufacturers
ACM panel kits for box-form retail signage. Common in Hamilton commercial fit-out and shopfront work.
Training & apprenticeships
Fabrication kits for trades training. We’ve supplied training programmes including the plastic welding training run at Hamilton Zoo.
Delivery to Hamilton
- Overnight NZ-wide courier from our Auckland dispatch. Most Hamilton addresses get delivery the next working day after dispatch.
- Rural delivery (RD) Waikato addresses are typically one extra working day.
- Same-day order processing for weekday orders placed before our cut-off.
- Phone & email technical support — call before you order if you’re unsure which welder, rod or kit suits your application. Rod-to-substrate mismatch is the #1 cause of failed plastic welds; we’d rather you call than guess.
Choosing the right tool for the job
Plastic welding is unforgiving of mismatched setups. A quick decision framework:
- What plastic are you welding? Check the recycling stamp on the part, or use the burn and float test. PP, PE-HD, PE-MD, PVC and ABS all need matching rod.
- How thick is the wall section? Under 6mm — hot-air welder with rod is the right method. Over 6mm — step up to an extruder welder for full-strength structural welds.
- How often will you use it? Occasional repair or hobby work — Techspan Rion. Daily trade fabrication — Triac or Triac S.
- Need it all in one purchase? The kits bundle the welder, rod, nozzle, roller and brush so nothing’s missing on day one.
FAQs from Hamilton & Waikato customers
How long does delivery to Hamilton take?
Most Hamilton metro addresses receive delivery the next working day after dispatch. Rural delivery addresses in Waikato are typically one additional working day. Orders placed before our weekday cut-off are dispatched same day.
Do you have a Hamilton showroom?
No — we’re Auckland-based and operate online with NZ-wide courier delivery. We’re happy to take phone or email enquiries from Hamilton customers. If you’d like to discuss your order in detail or arrange pickup, contact us first.
I run a dairy farm in Waikato and need to weld my PE water tank. What do I order?
Two scenarios. If the tank is the standard rural rotomoulded PE-HD type (most are), you’ll need a hot-air welder (Triac is the right tool for tank wall thickness) plus PE-HD welding rod. For thicker structural sections or pipe joining, an extruder welder is better. Call before you order — we’ll work out the specifics with you.
Can you supply spares for older Techspan or Leister tools?
Yes — we keep heating elements, carbon brushes, nozzles and rollers for the standard models in our accessories range. For older or less-common models, contact us with the welder model number and we’ll let you know what we can supply.
I’m a BCITO trainee in Hamilton — do you supply training kits?
Yes — fabrication kits are the right setup for learning plastic welding properly. We’ve supplied training programmes including the one at Hamilton Zoo. Contact us with your course details and we’ll let you know about trade/educational pricing.
