What this welding shoe does
The 5-6mm fillet weld shoe is the speed nozzle that lays a triangular fillet weld bead. Fits over the standard hot-air welder outlet, with a guide that holds 5-6mm triangular welding rod and directs hot air onto both the rod and the substrate simultaneously – producing a clean fillet weld in a single pass.
Compatibility
- Welder: Mini (Techspan Mini class) hot-air welders
- Rod: 5-6mm triangular profile rod
- Joint geometry: perpendicular (90-degree) joints requiring a fillet weld
- For round-rod welds, use a round-profile speed nozzle instead
Fillet welds vs butt welds
A fillet weld fills the inside corner of two perpendicular pieces of plastic with a triangular bead. Common in plastic tank fabrication, ducting joints, and any L-shaped joint. The triangular rod profile is sized to fully fill the corner in one pass; round rod would leave gaps that require multi-pass welding.
FAQs
Can I use this for round-rod welds?
No – this nozzle is profile-matched to triangular rod. For round rod use the matching round-rod speed nozzle (3mm or 4mm round are the most common).
What plastic can I weld with this shoe?
Any thermoplastic – the shoe directs hot air; the welding rod must match the plastic substrate. PP, PE, PVC, ABS all work with the appropriate rod.
