Welded seams in sheet vinyl are required for hygienic, watertight floor finishes in commercial, healthcare, education and food environments. The flooring kit gives you a calibrated set of tools designed for the long seam runs and tight tolerances commercial flooring demands.
Offices, retail, education and public buildings. Heat-welded vinyl seams give the durable, easy-clean finish that property owners specify for high-traffic flooring.
Hospitals, clinics, dental practices, laboratories. Welded seams meet hygiene standards by eliminating crevices where bacteria can collect.
Commercial kitchens, food processing, cold storage, hospitality back-of-house. Welded seams keep the floor watertight and code-compliant.
| Component | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Flooring-specific welder | Higher-output (typically Triac S or dedicated Flooron) with a duty cycle suited to long continuous seams. |
| Flooring speed nozzle | Wider profile that lays the rod into the grooved seam without dragging on the floor surface. |
| Grooving tool | Cuts a V-groove along the seam line to receive the welding rod. Sets the bond depth. |
| Spatula trimming knife | Trims the proud rod flush with the floor surface after the weld cools. Two-pass trim for smoothest finish. |
| Pressure roller | Compresses the molten rod into the groove for full contact and minimal voiding. |
| Welding rod (PVC, colour-matched) | Order rod separately to match the specific floor colour. Generic PVC rod won't match. |
PVC flooring rod must be colour-matched to the floor. Order it at the same time as the flooring, ideally from the same manufacturer. We stock generic PVC rod for non-decorative welds (e.g. underneath capping); for visible commercial flooring seams, use the floor-specific rod.
Sheet vinyl, commercial-grade PVC flooring, homogeneous and heterogeneous vinyl, sport flooring, hospital-grade hygiene flooring and most commercial sheet-vinyl floor coverings can all be seam-welded. The kit is not designed for LVT (luxury vinyl tile) or vinyl planks, which have click-lock joints rather than welded seams.
Yes — flooring welding rod is colour-matched to the floor covering and made from PVC with the same flexibility as the flooring material. Standard PVC rod won't match the floor colour. Buy flooring rod with the floor and check the manufacturer's rod recommendation; some flooring manufacturers specify a particular brand.
Welded seams are continuous, watertight and hygienic — exactly what's required in commercial kitchens, hospitals, laboratories and food-processing environments. Glued seams can lift over time, harbour dirt and bacteria, and fail under heavy traffic. Most commercial flooring specs require welded seams.
Groove the seam with a grooving tool to create a V-channel for the rod. Run the welder along the seam at consistent speed, feeding rod into the groove. Once cooled, trim the proud rod flush with a spatula-style trimming knife. The result is a seamless, continuous floor surface. The spatula cutting guide ensures even, flush trimming.
You can, but a flooring-specific welder makes a better seam. Dedicated flooring welders like the Flooron have a wider air outlet, a longer warm-up cycle suited to extended seam runs, and an ergonomic shape designed for low-down floor work. For one-off domestic jobs, a Triac with a flooring nozzle will do; for daily commercial flooring installation, get the dedicated tool.
Tell us about the job: the plastic you're working with, the wall thickness, and how often you'll use the tool. We'll recommend the right combination for the application.
